Notes:
Title is based on contents.
Physical Description: The older photographs tend to be large, mounted and frequently framed with glass. The more recent ones, which comprise the bulk of the collection, are generally 17.6 cm x 22 cm, with no mounting or framing.
Immediate Source of Acquisition: The UNB Sports Photographs Collection was acquired piecemeal by the University Archives over a period of years from athletes, coaches, alumni and fans. In the fall of 1996, 170 photographs that had been stored in various places by the Faculty of Kinesiology were collected by the University Archives.
Restrictions on access, use, reproduction and publication: All photographs are available for viewing. Copying for personal use or research purposes is permitted. If the photograph is to be published, permission must be obtained from the photographer. Researchers should note that the photographer's name, when known, is part of the description.
Finding aid: In 1996, the UNB Archives began item level description of its sports photographs collection. These descriptions were entered into a searchable database which was mounted on the UNB Archives and Special Collections web site:

Access was available by means of a chronological listing and a subject listing, as well as a searchable database. In 2001, with funding from CAIN, 385 photographs were scanned and the thumbnails attached to a revised chronological listing. At the same time, in conjunction with the UNB Electronic Text Centre, a modified database was created which will allow these images to be retrieved from an expanded variety of access points such as subject, year and name of the individual athlete or coach.
Accruals: It is anticipated that additional photographs will continue to be added to this collection as they are acquired.
