Scope and Content: This sub-series contains 7 letterbooks created while Stuart was teaching in the rural communities of Red Rock, Benton, McAdam and Welshpool. Most of the correspondence is personal in nature, although there are a few formal letters intermingled. A large number of the entries involve at least some mention of his teaching career. The letters are dated, and appear to have been copied verbatim. There are pages missing from most of the books. It should be noted that there is no letterbook for the year 1897.

Also included in a number of the letterbooks are alphabetical listings of the people to whom Stuart wrote his letters, complete with the date on which the letter was written.
